  • List all the tasks you need to do this week.

  • Apply the 80/20 rule: Which 20% of tasks will yield 80% of the results towards your mission? Circle these.

  • Eliminate or delegate the rest. This is the "villain's ruthless efficiency".

Step 3: Set Strict Boundaries (The Villain's Fortress)

  • Identify your peak productivity hours. Block these out in your calendar as "villain time."

  • During this time, turn off notifications, close unnecessary tabs, and inform others you're unavailable. This is the "villain's impenetrable defense.”

Step 4: Decisive Action (The Villain's Power Play)

  • For each high-priority task, break it into smaller, actionable steps.

  • Commit to completing the first step immediately. No overthinking. This is the "villain's swift strike."

  • Avoid analysis paralysis. Trust your initial decision and move forward.

  • Define your own metrics for success related to your mission. What does progress look like to you?

  • Track your progress daily. Hold yourself accountable. This is the "villain's unwavering self-discipline."

And you know what that reminds me of? Blockbuster.

As an elder millennial who grew up in the glorious '90s, watching Blockbuster get metaphorically punched in the face and then roundhouse kicked by Netflix was eerily sobering. As a kid, I loved going to Blockbuster on Friday nights to rent a movie.

Remember those late fees? The sheer annoyance of seeing a "Be Kind, Rewind" sticker?

Blockbuster thought they had it all figured out. They were rental world royalty, and then BAM! Streaming swooped in like a digital ninja, and suddenly, Blockbuster was left holding nothing but a bunch of plastic cases and a very confused business plan.

It's like they were so focused on being the “hero” of video rentals, they forgot to embrace their inner villain – the one who would have ruthlessly prioritized digital innovation.

Blockbuster's failure wasn't just about technology; it was about a failure to ruthlessly adapt and prioritize—a failure to embrace their “villainous” potential for innovation.

The lesson here? Don't be Blockbuster.

Don't cling to outdated methods while the future is tap-dancing its way into your living room.

Optimize your productivity, stay curious about new tech, and be ready to pivot faster than you can say "dial-up internet."
